Intent
At St. Peter’s Catholic First School, led by the Subject Leader, our aim is to deliver an engaging and holistic Relationships and Health Education (RHE) curriculum through the ‘Life to the Full’ programme. This curriculum is rooted in the ‘Model Catholic RSE Curriculum’ by the Catholic Education Service, recognised as a benchmark for good practice by the Department for Education. Our intent is to inform, inspire, and nurture children’s development using a creative and faith-based approach. By incorporating interactive videos, story-based activities, original worship music, and classroom prayers, we aim to support children’s spiritual, moral, cultural, and social growth in alignment with our Catholic values.
Implementation
The ‘Life to the Full’ programme is structured across three stages of learning:
Each learning stage covers three key modules based on the Catholic RHE framework:
These modules are broken into Units of Work, delivered over three terms on a two-year cycle. This approach ensures minimal content repetition while allowing children to revisit and build on prior learning. As children grow and develop their social, moral, cultural, and spiritual awareness, their engagement deepens, enabling the curriculum to become more impactful and meaningful.
Impact
The delivery of the RHE curriculum at St. Peter’s fosters a deep understanding of relationships, health, and faith-based values. Through this structured approach, children gain a clear sense of their worth as individuals created and loved by God. They develop the skills to build positive relationships, understand their role within a community, and grow in their spiritual and moral awareness. This foundation not only supports their current development but also equips them with the values and understanding needed for their future lives.
