Design Technology

Intent

At St. Peter’s Catholic First School we are committed to the development of the whole child to their full potential. We aim to inspire our children to develop a love for Design and Technology and provide them with opportunities to explore skills and learn knowledge to prepare for later life.

Implementation

We want our children to:

  • develop the creative, technical and practical expertise needed to perform everyday tasks confidently and to participate successfully in an increasingly technological world
  • build and apply a repertoire of knowledge, understanding and skills in order to design and make high-quality prototypes and products for a wide range of users
  • critique, evaluate and test their own ideas and products as well as the work of others
  • understand and apply the principles of nutrition and learn how to cook some foods
  • develop a love for Design and Technology and the opportunities made available to them.

Impact

Here are some examples of the wonderful DT work we have been doing at St. Peter's.

LEgo Club

Our Design Technology Lego Club is an exciting lunchtime activity for KS2 children, where they can explore the world of design and engineering through building with Lego. In this club, children work together to design, build, and solve problems using Lego bricks, developing key skills like teamwork, communication, and critical thinking. It’s a great opportunity for children to get creative, have fun, and develop a passion for building and problem-solving!
