At St Peter’s, our vision for MFL is that children will develop their language learning skills, enabling them to become all-round global citizens.
Learning another language gives children the valuable opportunity to develop positive attitudes to and respect for languages and cultures other than their own. We aim to foster pupils’ curiosity, encourage them to be open-minded and adventurous in all aspects of their learning and deepen their understanding of both the world around them and their own language.

At St Peter’s, our French curriculum has been developed in consultation with the MAT MFL Lead to create a scheme of work that meets the needs of our children. The curriculum is carefully planned to ensure clear progression in knowledge and skills across KS2 while meeting the requirements of the National Curriculum. Lessons incorporate a variety of teaching approaches, including games, songs and stories, to develop pupils’ confidence and enjoyment in language learning.
Through our teaching of French, we aim to inspire the children to develop a love of languages and to have growing awareness of the multilingual and multicultural world we live in.
We aim to help our children grow into curious, confident and reflective language learners.
