Modern Foreign Language

Subject Leader – Mrs Katherine Blow

INTENT

At St Peter’s, our vision for MFL is that children will develop their language learning skills, enabling them to become all-round global citizens.

Learning another language gives children the valuable opportunity to develop positive attitudes to and respect for languages and cultures other than their own.  We aim to foster pupils’ curiosity, encourage them to be open-minded and adventurous in all aspects of their learning and deepen their understanding of both the world around them and their own language.

IMPLEMENTATION

At St Peter’s we follow the Rachel Hawkes scheme of language learning. This well-planned scheme aligns with the National Curriculum requirements, ensuring a progression of skills across Years 3 and 4. A variety of teaching styles are used, including games, songs and stories.

IMPACT

Through our teaching of French, we aim to inspire the children to develop a love of languages and to have growing awareness of the multilingual and multicultural world we live in.

We aim to help our children grow into curious, confident and reflective language learners.
